Update from At Large Councilor Allie

The Presidential election is the best opportunity for the American people to change the direction that big government has our country

heading. Media coverage is political theater focused more on Hillary’s emails and Trump’s tweets, than on important issues that people care about.

Stagnant job growth and wages, a shrinking middle class, big government overspending and a soaring national debt consuming a growing portion of the federal budget.Young people are concerned thata rigged economy benefits Wall Street insiders, big banks and crony capitalists. Bad trade deals threaten American companies and jobs, hurting our cities and economy.

Families worry about he rising costs and quality of healthcare and education, with the failure of Obamacare, and the federal government’s role in implementing Common Core.

Massachusetts could have requested a waiver from the federal government for both programs, since we had the highest education standards in the country and were the model for the Affordable Healthcare Act. Instead, our state paid hundreds of millions of dollars to private companies to develop websites that did not work, and develop more tests for students. This money would have been better spent on actually providing healthcare, or on teachers, students and school supplies. The diversion of education funding hurts schools and leads to rising property taxes.

Americans have paid a terrible price with the continual deployment of our military in perpetual wars, costing thousands of lives and billions of dollars, while not improving our national security and giving rise to terrorism.

The Middle East is more destabilized than ever. Under the Obama and Clinton foreign policy, the United States bankrolled and armed al-Qaeda and Islamic jihadists in Libya and Syria in efforts to topple Khadafi and Assad. Now some of these groups morphed into ISIS. The hard fought gains of the American military in Iraq have been lost to ISIS, along with stockpiles of captured weapons. Our ambassador and brave soldiers were left to die in Benghazi.

People have had enough of politicians, their donors and bank executives who seem to be above the law.Wealth and power is being concentrated to a few political elites and crony capitalists, while the rest of us endure high taxes, over regulation and government overreach at all levels.

Inflation caused by the constant printing of moneyhashurt working folks and seniors, whose incomes have remained flat.

There is a decline in our functioning democracy withpeople feeling that elected representativesdo not reflect their concerns and interests. Politicians, and activist judges havelittle regard for our “unalienable” God-given and Constitutional rights; with increasing government intrusion into our daily lives. Contempt for institutions such as Congress, the political and mediaelites are at an all-time high.

So what happened to America, once the land of opportunity, with equal protection under the law and justice for all? How and when did things go so wrong? Who decided that moving the industrial manufacturing base of America to a communist country on the other side of the planet was a good idea? What can ordinary Americans do to turn things around and restore our country?

Even though much power resides in government and crony capitalist corporations, the people have enormous power if we are able to uniteand wilingto exercise that power. The interests of “the people,” will always be in competition to powerful special interests. They willdo everything they can to keep usdivided, misinformed and distracted.

It is time for Americans to wake up and rebuild, own and control those things our founding fathers fought a revolution to give us;a free press, free speech, free markets, sound money, active citizens in the political process, limited government and local control by citizen legislators.

So whyare Americans so divided?Themedia giants rely on labels, sound bites and decidewhat information they wantthe public to see and hear.

Do you trust the government, politicians or the media to report the news, the actual unemployment and inflation rates accurately?

Do you trust the media, the big banks,Congress or the national parties to represent the values or best interests of ordinary Americans, or thewill of the voters? If you are like me, the answer is no, and with good reason.

Five top executives of the Democrat Party resigned after a contentious convention and an obvious bias against the Sanders campaign was revealed. A day later, Bernie Sanders announced he was leaving the Democrat Party. This was  barely mentioned by the liberal media.

While watching Bill Clinton’ speech at the DNC, I was reminded what a skillful liar she is. Speaking about the record of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, he stated that the things you heard were “simply made up.”I wondered, “Did he really just say that?” and,“Where was the reaction from Sander’s supporters?” It turns out they were outside the arena protesting.

Who planneda10 PM protest during the speech by the former President who signed the job killing North American Free Trade Agreement? The seeds of the financial meltdown began when the big banks got President Clinton and congressional Republicans to pass the banking legislation that repealed Glass-Steigall, a depression-era safeguard that prohibited investment banks from making mortgage loans.

In a few years, aided by the Federal Reserve’s artificially low interest rates, the housing bubble and sub-prime mortgage crisis was created. Now it was harvest time for the banksters.

Rather than going out of business for making bad loans, investment banks are able to securitize the debt and sell “toxic assets” to unsuspecting customers based on bogus ratings provided by Standard and Poor’s.The bailouts of the “too big to fail” banks cost American taxpayers hundreds of billions.

Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargopaid billions in fines for betting against their own customers. Yet noWall Street executivesever went to jail.Instead, three became White House Chief of Staff under Presidents Bush and Obama, and one top executive of CitigroupJack Lew, left the White House and now serves as Treasury Secretary.

Millions of people, retirees, organizations and pension funds suffered huge losses, needless foreclosures, bankruptcies, and a generation is being held back from getting on with their lives.

For Hillary Clinton to attack Donald Trump as the candidate of Wall St. indicates her stunning contempt for the intelligence of the average voter. The Clinton’s have collected $153 million in speaking fees, including $7.7 million for at least 39 speeches to large banks like Goldman Sachs and UBS. Clinton is collecting tens of millions in donations from hedge fund managers and billionaires like George Soros.

The Clinton Foundation has taken in millions from foreign governments, such as the Saudis.

We need an energy policy that works for America, and puts Americans back to work.

The Saudis spend billions buying influence with Washington politicians, while boosting oil production in a slowing world economy creating a massive glut.Artificially low prices have devastated American energy companies and jobs, oncebright spots in our economy that is now growing at a paltry 1 percent.

America needs to create 1.2 million full time jobs each month to put our economy on track. Our economy is only creating a fraction of the jobs needed, and many are part time. A million good paying jobs in manufacturing and the trades go unfilled because our youth lack basic skills such as using a ruler or power tools they need to be trained. High unemployment, hopelessness, drug abuse, homicides and failing schools have ravaged our cities such as Detroit, Chicago, and Baltimore.

Enough is enough. We cannot do the same thing over and over again, and expect a different result. Trusting those who trade influence for access and power, either in government or the media, and are responsible for the mess and insecurity that America is in, with perpetual wars, a stagnant economy and job growth, only ensures more of the same.
