Veterans Town Hall Thursday at the Westfield Senior Center

The Westfield Senior Center, 45 Noble Street will host a Veterans Town Hall on Thursday, Feb. 22. from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

WESTFIELD – The VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System and the City of Westfield Veterans Department will host a Veterans Town Hall at the Westfield Senior Center, 45 Noble Street on Thursday, February 22 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
The veteran community is invited to learn firsthand about Veterans Administration programs and services from VA representatives, including John P. Collins, Director of the VA Center Western Massachusetts HealthCare System, other regional VA healthcare leadership and staff, claims representatives from the Boston VA Regional Office, VA National Cemetery Administration officials, and local veteran service officers.
Dennis R. Ramstein, Outreach Coordinator for the VA Central Western Massachusetts HealthCare System said they have been holding Town Halls for the last three years, but this will be the first one held in Westfield. “They’re very informative. We always get a lot of compliments from veterans after we host one of these,” Ramstein said.
The goal of the Town Hall is to answer questions from veterans and family members regarding VA benefits and to ensure that eligible veterans make an informed decision regarding the care and services available to them. VA Central Western Massachusetts, based in Northampton, oversees the VA Medical Center in Leeds and seven outpatient clinics including the Springfield VA clinic at 25 Bond Street.
During the Town Hall, veterans will also have an opportunity to enroll in VA health care. A copy of a Veteran’s discharge document, DD214, is helpful for on-site enrollment. Veterans and families may also inquire about financial and other forms of assistance to veterans, including compensation and pension benefits and information about the National Cemetery.
The Town Hall is open to all veterans, family members and anyone interested in veterans issues, and is an an ideal opportunity to obtain valuable information in one place at one time. No advance registration is necessary. For additional information, call the Senior Center at 562-6435.
