Westfield Fireworks Scheduled for Saturday

WESTFIELD – In a story first reported in The Westfield News in May,  a fireworks display will happen in Westfield this Saturday night, July 2nd.fireworks

Since the mutual decision last year to end the involvement of the Westfield Rotary Club and Stanley Park, numerous site examinations and discussions with fire and police officials took place and it was determined that the 2016 Fireworks for Freedom will be done behind South Middle School.

For the past several years the fireworks had been organized by the Rotary Club of Westfield and held at Stanley Park. The Rotary Club has refocused its community efforts on the Downtown Food Fest, which will be held in late August.

Mayor Brian Sullivan thanked the Rotary Club and Stanley Park for their past service.

Mayor Sullivan said that headlining the entertainment for the evening will be Cory and the Knightsmen starting at 7:00 pm and vendors in attendance will be Moolicious, Angelo’s Fried Dough, Sub King, Ed’s French Fries, face painting and others.

Parking for the event is available at all city lots including: South Middle School parking lot, City Hall (59 Court Street), The Senior Center (45 Noble Street), downtown municipal parking lots and limited spaces available at Abner Gibbs School (50 West Silver). Parking will also be available at Noble Hospital (115 West Silver Street), and the YMCA (67 Court Street) parking lots located at the rear of the building. Limited spaces will be available at Amelia Park Ice Arena. All lots will provide unsecured parking. On-street parking will be available as well. People are encouraged to patronize downtown establishments prior to visiting the fireworks.

Handicapped spaces are available at South Middle School, Westfield Boys and Girls Club (28 West Silver) and Amelia Park Children’s Museum (29 South Broad Street). Please note that the horseshoe in front of the South Middle School will be used as a pick up and drop off area for those needing to be dropped off close to the location. No parking will be available here.

For those traveling by bicycle, the Columbia Greenway bike trail is available for those wishing to ride. Be sure to bring your flashlight. The bike trail will be patrolled by bicycle mounted Westfield Police. Please secure your bike to a bike rack only. You may use racks at both South Middle School and the Boys and Girls Club or anywhere a bike rack is available. Temporary racks will also be available. Please remember to bring your locks to secure your ride.

With sunset at approximately 830pm that night the fireworks are expected to kick off about 9pm.
