MAJOR LEAGUE
GAME DATE: 5/9/17
Advance Manufacturing Company 9, Sons of Erin 1

With the season in full swing, Major League teams Advance Manufacturing and Sons of Erin went head-to-head on a chilly spring night at Cross Street field.
Lead by George Kimball on the mound, Advance Manufacturing come out on top with a score of 9 – 1. As starting pitcher, Kimball allowed only three hits over 5.2 innings while striking out 11 batters. Parker Roit came in to get the final out and earn the save.
Advance jumped out to an early lead scoring 2 runs in the first inning. After walks by Reid Imbriglio, Ethan Porter and Connor Queenin, Kimball followed with a single to left field to score two runners.
Fielding was strong from Sons of Erin as Patrick Moore, with his fast feet, ran in to grab a fly out to center field. Catcher Nathan Pudlo, also made a great catch from a foul tip, getting the Sons out of the first inning.
The Sons kept up the offensive pressure in the second inning. Caden Matuszczak, playing shortstop, grabbed a fly ball, and pitcher Ted Dunn recorded 2 K’s, bringing that inning to a close with no runs scored.
Advance turned up the heat in the third inning and scored three times with singles from Imbriglio, Kimball and Wyatt Baker, but Sons made them work for it. Sons player Barrett Aube grabbed a shot to right field making the first out. Shortstop, Bryan Bolio, fired a rocket to first base, recording the second out and pitcher, Dunn, clenched the last out of the inning with a K.
In the top of the 5th inning, Advance put the game out of reach scoring 4 more runs. Imbriglio lead off the inning with a single, then scored on an in-the-park homerun by Porter. Ryder Pieczarka then hit a triple to center field scoring Mason Pereira.
On the mound for Sons of Erin were Matuszczak with 1 K, Dunn, who threw for four K’s and Scotty Hepburn and Nathan Pudlo each recording 2 K’s. Lead hitter was Moore who smashed a triple. Dunn was the sole RBI hitter.
Advance demonstrated solid defense the entire game, with great plays by Everett Stec, Baker and Imbriglio. Pieczarka made a difficult play at shortstop to make the final out of the game.

Air Compressor Engineering 2 – Sons of Erin 2

Air Compressor Engineering (3-4-1) and Sons of Erin (0-5-1) played to a 2-2 tie in 9 innings Monday night at Cross Street. Grady Flaherty singled, Jesse Paroline doubled and Anthony Melo doubled to provide the AC offense. Ethan “Beef” Connors, Cam Lisowski and Al Rogers each walked twice in the contest with Connors and Rogers scoring for AC. Scotty Hepburn homered, singled and scored both runs for Sons of Erin. Brendon Morse and Lisowski combined for 19 strikeouts while Sons of Erin struck out 14 AC batters.

Slovak Club 13 – Air Compressor Engineering 4

Air Compressor Engineering (3-6-1) faced Slovak Club (5-3) Saturday afternoon at Papermill Field in their second matchup of the season. Unfortunately for Air Compressor the results were much the same as strong Slovak Club pitching, offense and defense shut the home team down.
AC’s offense was supplied by Nick Goodwin (single, walk, 2 runs scored), Cam Lisowski (single, walk, 1 run scored), Ethan “Beef” Connors (single, walk), Anthony Melo(single) and Gavin Connors (single). Grady Flaherty reached on a fielders’ choice and scored as well as drawing a walk. Jesse Paroline also reached base on one of only five base on balls issued by Slovak pitching, while striking out seven AC batters.

Hastie Fence 7 – Air Compressor Engineering 3

Air Compressor Engineering (3-6-1) kept it close but couldn’t take down National league front-runners Hastie Fence (9-1) despite some powerful AC offense. Air Compressor got things going in the second inning with a leadoff single by Grady Flaherty. Two quick outs later center fielder Kaevon Eddington launched his first career Little League homerun out of Papermill Field, plating Flaherty and giving AC their only lead of the game. In the fourth inning AC added a run when Cam Lisowski tripled to right field and scored on an error. Jacob Mello hurled a complete game for Hastie Fence, striking out 7 without surrendering a base on balls.

ROOKIE LEAGUE
GAME DATE: 4/23/17
Westfield Bank vs. Pikeside Auto

Westfield Bank and Pikeside Auto started the 2017 season on the right foot. Under blue skies, the teams played hard for five innings, hitting the ball hard off the tee and making some solid plays in the field.
For Westfield Bank, Jonathan Chaloux and Conor Christofori had three solid hits, and Mark Beaulieu and Alex Miller made some nice plays in the field.

Westfield Bank vs. Great Clips

Westfield Bank and Great Clips transitioned off the tees to Coaches Pitch last Sunday, and the bats came alive. For Westfield Bank, Aaron Taylor and Caleb Smithies were sharp in the field. Jack Donnelly and Aiden Purdy led the offensive attack.

SOFTBALL 10U DIVISION

Game Date: 5/02/17
Kiwanis 14 Gateway 2

The Kiwanis had their hitting shoes on as they broke out for 14 runs against the first year Gateway squad. 1st year 10U players Kaleigh Little, Ali Lakin and Sophia Smithies all had hits and reached base multiple times. Lead off hitter Sophie Svantesson and Shea Hurley had 3 hits and Grace Trempe scored 3 runs to pace the Big Blue Machine.
The Kiwanis used 4 pitchers to shut down Gateway as Hayley Krupiennski, Grace Trempe, Julia Bonfitto and Shea Hurley all pitched well. The win improved the Kiwanis record to 2-1 for the season.

Moe’s Westfield 5 Westfield Kiwanis 3

Westfield Moe’s made the most of only three hits and used strong pitching from Mia Tavares, Grace Burke, and Camille Bruno to get past a very strong Westfield Kiwanis team 5-3. Tavares started the game pitching two scoreless innings while striking out four. Burke followed with two scoreless innings of her own and struck out five. Bruno finished off the last two innings with six strikeouts. Burke also had the big hit of the game. With the game scoreless in the third inning she blasted a two run triple to put Moe’s ahead. She followed that up by stealing home and Moe’s led 3-0. Sara LaCross had a nice game for Moe’s as well. In the first inning she made a nice catch in right field. Then in the 4th inning she was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a fielders choice by Alaiyna Lapointe. Lacross then stole third and home to extend Moe’s lead to 4-0.
After Kiwanis got one back in the 5th, Camille Bruno then doubled and stole third and home to give Moe’s a 5-1 lead going into the last inning. Bruno then took the mound and ended the Kiwanis comeback attempt by striking out the final batter with the tying runs on base. Mia Tavares also had a single for Moe’s. Nova Santiago-Scott walked and scored a run and Allie Stucenski walked twice and earned the game ball for catching all six innings and shutting down the running game. Katelyn Connor and Caitlyn Arooth were also on base for Moe’s. The game was a very well played game by two very good Westfield teams and the win ran Moe’s record to 3-0 on the season.

Moe’s Westfield 14 Hadley 2

Three girls got their first hit of the year as Moe’s Westfield got past Hadley 14-2 at Sadie Knox to remain unbeaten. Nova Santiago-Scott, Caitlyn Arooth, and Alaiyna Lapointe each got their first hit of the year. Santiago-Scott walked, singled, scored two runs and had one RBI. Arooth was on base all three times with a single and two walks while also scoring a run and driving one in. It was her first 10u hit. She also made a nice play at catcher to tag out a Hadley runner attempting to steal home. Lapointe had two singles, three runs batted in, and a run scored. The two hits were the first of her Little League career. Mia Tavares had a single, double and a walk while scoring two runs, stealing home and driving in two. She also pitched two scoreless innings. Allie Stucenski had two singles and a walk and scored all three times. She also had an RBI and three stolen bases. Stucenski also made her 10u pitching debut tossing a scoreless inning with one strikeout. Grace Burke was on base all three times with two walks, a single, one RBI, and two runs scored as well as a solid inning on the mound. Katelyn Connor had a single, walk, two runs scored and a RBI. She too made her Little League pitching debut tossing a good inning as well. Nathalie Senez walked twice and scored a run while Sara LaCross had a bases loaded walk to drive in a run. It was another total team effort by Moe’s Westfield.

Kiwanis 9, Southampton 8

The Kiwanis squeaked out a win over a tough Southampton squad. Sophie Svantesson made her mound debut starting the game for the Kiwanis. She was followed to the mound by Grace Trempe, Julia Bonfitto and Shea Hurley.
The Kiwanis were down 7-6 starting the last inning and made a furious comeback. Rachel Bonfitto and Shea Hurley lead off the inning with hits. Kaleigh Little, one of the youngest players on the squad, then came up with a huge hit to tie the game. Grace Trempe then grounded out to plate another run and Little stole home to finish the scoring. The win moved the Kiwanis to 3-2 on the season.

SOFTBALL 12U DIVISION
Game Date: Tuesday 5/9
Richards Jewelers 13, Northampton 0

Richards Jewelers started out slow on the offensive side in the first 3 innings of play against Northampton. In the top of the 4th they really came alive scoring 5 runs off hits by Abby Menzel, Kara Dougherty, Bella DelMonte, Moja Premney, and a double by Amber Brown. Paige Hutkoski & Bella DelMonte shared a shutout with 11 strike outs and allowing only 1 hit.

Thursday 5/11
Richards Jewelers 11, Easthampton Two 7

Richards started off strong scoring 5 runs in the first inning with hits by Cassie Girroir, Bella DelMonte, and a double by Amber Brown. Paige Hutkoski struck out 5 and allowed only 3 hits in 4 innings. Bella DelMonte came in striking out 7 batters in 4 innings allowing only 1 hit. Easthampton came back in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game at 7. Richards defense held Easthampton to no hits in the 7th & 8th innings. Allowing Richards to score 4 runs with hits by Cassie, Bella, Amber, Charlotte Bouyea, and Sarah Moriarty.

Saturday 5/13
Richards Jewelers 13, OMG 1

Richards Jewelers dominated play on Saturday afternoon scoring 3 runs in the first inning with hits by Paige Hutkoski, Abby Menzel, Cassie Girroir, and Myia Gilday. Paige Hutkoski pitched 3 innings striking out 3 and allowing only 2 hits. This made possible in part by an outstanding catch at shortstop by Cassie Girroir who then threw to first baseman Abby Menzel stretching it out to beat the runner back for a double play. Richards scored 6 more runs in the next 2 innings including a base hit by Anita Bialas and a home run by Amber Brown. Bella DelMonte came in to close out the game in the 4th striking out the side and giving Richards the win.

Sunday 5/14
Easthampton One 8, Richards Jewelers 4

Richards came out swinging scoring 4 runs in the first inning with hits by Cassie Girroir, Charlotte Bouyea, and Moja Premney. Paige Hutkoski pitched 2 innings striking out 2 and allowing 3 hits for 5 runs. Bella DelMonte came in and pitched 4 strong innings striking out 9 and allowing only 3 hits. However, strong pitching and big bats by Easthampton held Richards scoreless for the remainder of the game.

MAJORS SOFTBALL
Game Day: 5/11/2017
Vivid Hair Salon 15, Gateway 0

Pitchers Ali LaPanne and Alaina Raco combined for the shutout in this Vivid win with LaPanne allowing only two base runners in three innings while striking out six and Raco retiring every batter she faced. Maria Bonfitto led the charge on offense, going 3-3 with 2 RBI and scoring 2 runs. Lizz Williams and Abby Corliss each reached base and scored every time they came to the plate as did Isabella Morganelli, who also drove in the first run of the game with a solid single to get the scoring started. The strong pitching performances from LaPanne and Raco were backed up by great defense, highlighted with plays by Ciara Toporowski at short stop, Lizz Williams at second base, and Grace Riga behind the plate.

Vivid Hair Salon 3, Southampton 2

A clutch two-out line drive single to center field by Ali LaPanne in the top half of the sixth inning scored Alaina Raco to put Vivid ahead in this quick-paced pitcher’s duel with top-ranked Southampton. Raco lined a one-out single into right center to get things started in the sixth and was moved to third base on a two-out single by Ava Cichonski. LaPanne’s game winning RBI was her second of the game after driving in Rylie Nimchick in the fourth inning to put Vivid on the board. Grace Riga raced down the line to beat a throw for an infield single in the fifth inning and scored on a Megan Cichonski ground ball after stealing second and third base on consecutive pitches. The game was secured by strong performances on the mound by pitchers Megan and Ava Cichonski (each giving up one run in three innings with 7 strikeouts apiece) and in the field by Isabella Morganelli behind the plate, Ciara Toporowski at short stop and catcher Rylie Nimchick, who threw out three base runners trying to steal.
