WESTFIELD – The Westfield Riding Club (WRC) hosts its annual 4-H and Open show of the season on Sunday, May 31 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the club grounds located at 29 Fowler Road in Westfield. The show features classes for all ages, abilities and disciplines including the increasingly popular miniature horses, western pleasure, hunt seat and saddle seat classes.
According to club President Sarah Bonini it is the tradition of the show the keeps bringing people back and attracting new members. “The Westfield Riding Club shows are really family affairs for so many. Each year we see the children and now the grandchildren of folks that have attended,” she said. “In addition to the great competition, I think people will be very excited to see how great the grounds look this year. Our members have been hard at work to make sure this year’s show is the best ever.”
This year’s show will feature new classes and prizes for horses and riders of all ages and disciplines including the return of the Founder’s Day Pleasure Classic, an Ultimate In-Hand Jackpot, and Team Equitation Challenge. Three perpetual trophies will be awarded. Riders with disabilities will also be taking part in classes this year. Onsite registration is available and spectators are welcome.
The club is a non-profit organization founded on the eve of World War II in 1939 by a group of horse enthusiasts whose intent was “fostering interest in the use, care, breeding and protection of horses. The club organizes educational activities, programs, shows, trail rides, and other events to enhance the understanding of correct horse management and riding, as well as appreciation of the horse with particular emphasis on youth participation at all levels.
“We believe that by offering an opportunity for devoted horse owners to come together to socialize and build their skills, we can develop a community with strong bonds that will allow us to help each other and our horses grow, learn and have fun doing it,” said Bonini.
Show photography and photo booth will be provided. Blue Bird Mobile Tack will provide onsite support. Boy Scout Troop 338 will be operating the cook shack.
