WHS nets tourney bid

WESTFIELD – It may only be the halfway point of the high school boys’ tennis season, but the Westfield Bombers can rest easy.
Westfield knocked off visiting Chicopee Comp 4-1 Thursday. It was the seventh win of a 14-match season for the Bombers, signaling an early tournament berth.
Jacob Barbieri (6-0, 6-3), Chris Unger (6-3, 6-0), and Tristin Viale (6-1, 6-1) won at first, second, and third singles, respectively, for Westfield.
Bombers’ Alec Best and Casey McKenzie won at first doubles, 6-0, 6-0. Teammates’ Trent Cromack and Robbie Maxton fell just short in their match at second doubles, losing 6-2, 7-6, (7-4).
