SPRINGFIELD – Four Golden Bears had a multi-point game as the host Western New England University men’s soccer team opened the 2013 season with a convincing 5-0 victory over Westfield State in the first game of the Soccer City Shootout at Suprenant Field on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Senior Jake Bartnik and freshman Ryan Dickinson scored two goals apiece, while freshman Scott Trautwein chipped in a goal and assist and senior Ryan Williams contributed a pair of assists.
Westfield will play Emmanuel College in Sunday’s consolation game at 12:00. Montclair State, NJ, defeated Emmanuel, 4-0, in Saturday’s other opening round game.
