NORTHBOROUGH – Technically speaking, the Westfield Babe Ruth Baseball 14 Year-Old (Wolf Pack) team is moving on.
Westfield extended its stay in the Mid-Summer World Series with a double forfeit victory Wednesday at the New England Sports Complex. The Wolf Pack now advances to the quarterfinals where they will face the tournament’s top-seeded Adirondack Heat, a team which has allowed just one run against through five games.
Westfield led MoJo Baseball Club 4-0 before MoJo’s starting pitcher suffered a tournament-ending injury in the second inning. The injury left MoJo with just eight players, forcing them to forfeit the pool play game, and their playoff game against the Wolf Pack.
“We just need to play a good game of baseball (Thursday),” Westfield manager Matt Avery said.
Westfield-Adirondack will begin Thursday at 8 a.m. Ethan Flaherty is scheduled to take the mound for the Wolf Pack.
