Wolf Pack nearly topples Adirondack

NORTHBOROUGH – The Westfield Babe Ruth Baseball 14U (Wolf Pack) team wrapped up tournament play with a strong showing against one of the tourney’s toughest teams in the Mid-Summer World Series Thursday at the New England Sports Complex.
Westfield fell to the Adirondack Heat 3-2 in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs. The Wolf Pack actually led 2-1 in the fifth inning.

“We played some pretty good baseball,” Westfield manager Matt Avery said. “Their pitcher pitched really good.”
Adirondack’s battery recorded eight strikeouts.
Ethan Flaherty (5 inn.) and Mike Hall (2 inn.) combined for a solid effort on the mound for Westfield. Wolf Pack’s C.J. Skribiski landed the big hit of the game.
“We just wound up on the short end,” said Avery, who applauded his team’s effort against Adirondack, a team which allowed just one run through five games prior to taking on Westfield.
Adirondack went on to the finals where they lost to Nokona Baseball, 2-1.
Now, Westfield will turn its attention to a full week of practice next week before the World Series comes to town.
“It was a good week for aligning our pitching,” Avery said. “We’re getting up to speed.”
