WESTFIELD—The Westfield State University (WSU) Police are continuing their toy drive through the weekend, and hope to gather more toys and items for those in need.

WSU Police are in the midst of their 17th annual toy drive, which will go to benefit New Beginning Shelters for victims of domestic abuse throughout the Pioneer Valley. Items that they are looking for include toys and toiletries, as well as hats, scarves and other appropriate items.

“We’re hoping to raise around $4,500 in toys, toiletries, blankets, any donation,” Tony Casciano, Director and Chief of Public Safety WSU, said.

Clothing and cash donations are also accepted, according to Casciano.

Previously, on Dec. 12, the WSU Police were also gathering donations during the “Stuff the Cruiser” event. However, donations can now be brought to the WSU Campus Police station on Western Avenue on campus.

Troy Watkins, Communications Specialist for WSU, said that the anticipated total of toys and other items is on par with what they have raised each year over the past several years.
