WESTFIELD—A 10-year-old Westfield girl will be part of a concert in June to benefit a local nonprofit that works with disabled people and their families.
Sophie Lawry, 10, will be singing with Dan Kane and Friends on Saturday, June 11, at Jericho, The Bureau for Exceptional Children and Adults, a camp and catholic organization on Northampton Street in Holyoke, that provides programs and services for people with disabilities. The concert is being held to benefit the organization.
“I’m very excited to do this and the reason is because Jericho has done so much for my family and I would like to help in return,” Lawry said.
The concert will be held outdoors beginning at 1 p.m., regardless of weather, and tickets cost $15 for one, or $40 for a family up to four.
According to Sophie’s father Dan Lawry, his daughter, as well as Kane and two singing groups, The Pearls and DK8, will be performing a wide array of music, from standards to pop songs.
Sophie said that she started singing at age 4, when she attended a camp hosted by Kane. After that, she won a talent show at 5 years old, beginning her journey into singing for crowds.
“I really like singing in front of people and making people smile,” she said.
In addition to the show June 11, Sophie said that she will also be performing at the Pawtucket Red Sox game this weekend, and has performed at Springfield Falcons and Thunderbirds games, as well as at the Babe Ruth World Series in Westfield.
