6th Annual Trivia Nite returns to Russell

RUSSELL – Russell First will be hosting the Sixth Annual Trivia Nite, on Saturday March 19 at the VFW in Russell on Rt 20. With doors opening 6 p.m. and the first round starting at 7 p.m. sharp, it’s the perfect way to shake those winter blues.
“Cash prizes might help draw people in”, said Don Blair, Co-Chair of Russell First. “It doesn’t take long before everyone’s focus is on getting more points so they can have bragging rights when the night is over”.
Basic rules are simple: Use of electronic devices during all games is prohibited, all cell phones must be turned off, and teams are limited to a maximum of 10 players per table. Cash prizes will be awarded to the team with the highest score at the end of two, five-game sessions consisting of ten questions per game.
A $10 donation gets you in the door to test your knowledge and an opportunity to vie for the cash prize for “Best Theme Table” or to take a chance on the 50/50 raffle. Players purchasing 50/50 raffle tickets will automatically be eligible for door prizes to be drawn at random at the close of the event.
“Having a theme for your table is not mandatory” said Blair. “It does add another fun dimension to the evening.”
Although sports teams are most popular, “we have had everything from western cowboys to the Pirates of the Caribbean”, said Blair. The prize for Best Theme Table will be determined at halftime utilizing the time-honored, super-accurate and audience-powered “Applause-O-Meter”.
Proceeds will be used to help offset future fundraising events and provide monetary support for projects the group is involved in throughout the year. Previously, funds from Trivia Nite have been used to help sponsor the Russell Memorial Day Parade, donaed to the Jurgen G. Igel Schoarship Fund, and for the purchase of heating oil for the VFW.
Other organizations to benefit from funds raised by Russell First over the years have been the Russell Fire Department, Russell Police Department, and the Boy Scouts of America at Camp Moses on Russell Pond.
A cash bar will be provided and contestants are encouraged to bring their own food for munching. Outlets will be available for warming trays and crock pots.
