WESTFIELD – The Southwick High School baseball team put together some timely hits, and got a lift on the mound from a couple of underclassmen in the most recent version of this “border war”.
Southwick freshmen pitchers Bart Shea and Sam Parker combined for a one-hitter in leading the Rams to a 4-0 win over the St. Mary Saints Friday at Westfield Middle School North.
Shea allowed just one hit, a sharply hit double from St. Mary’s lead-off batter Shaun Gezotis in the bottom of the first inning. The freshman pitcher struck out one batter and walked two.
Parker recorded six strikeouts and yielded just two walks through four innings.
“We’ve got these two arms already up on varsity getting experience,” Southwick coach Bill Dupre said. “I can’t wait to see what they develop into in two years.”
Several batters produced key hits for Southwick (5-2) – Jake Goodreau (double, run, RBI), Eddie Martinez (hit, run), Dan McClellan (hit, run), Andrew Mitchell (2-for-4), Sam Parker (hit, run), and Joe Stratton (hit).
St. Mary pitcher Matt Hannoush performed well in a losing effort. Hannoush recorded four Ks.
