SOUTHWICK – On Saturday morning, the Southwick Police Department announced that local and state police were searching for a missing teenager. At around 11:30 a.m., the Southwick Police Department received a report that a 14-year-old boy had a disagreement with his parents Friday night and left the house.
According to Southwick Police Chief Kevin Bishop, the boy had been located just over the border in Westfield and would be turned over to his parents. Walking down the street just past the Southwick line, a Westfield Police officer spotted the 14-year-old.
“We are very happy as a department that the young boy has been found and turned back to his parents,” said Bishop. “The parents would like to thank all agencies involved and the local news areas for getting the word out.”
Southwick Police received information that the boy is 14-years-old, but has the maturity level of a 10-year-old. Law enforcement discovered that he had slept in a camper just a few houses down the road from his residence, which belonged to a friend.
There were numerous sightings of him until 10 a.m. on Saturday morning and the boy was last seen by police leaving a friend’s house and going up towards Tannery Road.
Along with the Southwick Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, Westfield Police, and the Southwick Fire Department all assisted with the situation. Westfield Police provided a drone to help search for the 14-year-old boy.
