3-vehicle accident snarls Friday’s rush hour traffic

WESTFIELD – A three-vehicle accident tied up traffic for nearly an hour Friday night and sent one man to Baystate Medical Center.
At 4:39 p.m. Friday, a 2011 Subaru attempted to make a left turn out of Mr. Phipps Inc. onto N. Elm Street, according to Westfield Police Lt. Jay Pitoniak.
A pickup truck traveling northbound hit the Subaru, and the collision ended up in the southbound lane striking a GMC truck traveling southbound, Pitoniak said.
The driver of the GMC truck had lacerations and was transported to Baystate Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, said Pitoniak.
All lanes of N. Elm were closed to traffic for 45-50 minutes, according to Pitoniak, who said making a left turn at that location is legal, but not the best thing to do when there is heavy traffic.
Pitoniak believed there were citations issued but did not have the details about those at press time.
