Southwick DPW work order system on track

SOUTHWICK – The Board of Selectmen approved a new work management program for the Department of Public Works (DPW) last night.
DPW Director Randy Brown said the town was using a program that tracked work orders and was managed by Tighe & Bond to the tune of an expected $10,000 per year. Brown said the cost has increased and would actually cost about $20,000 per year.
“I can’t justify spending that every year,” said Brown. “Instead, Tighe and Bond can set up a private website for the town.”
The site, which would cost $5,000 per year for Tighe and Bond to maintain and manage, would offer similar work order tracking and updates.
“We need something simple,” said Brown. “We would have been paying for bells and whistles and we wouldn’t get any value for it.”
Brown said the town currently has a Tighe and Bond credit of $12,000 so he would use that to start the program, which would use the town’s current GIS information.
The site would like any other website, but users would have a special code to enter the site and update work orders, which would be accessible to Brown and the DPW assistant.
