Stanley J. Herman

RUSSELL: flagStanley J. Herman, 80, of Russell died Friday April 3, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born in Westfield on July 10, 1934 the son of the late Stanley and Josephine (Niksa) Herman. Stan was an Army veteran who served in an artillery unit in post WWII, occupied Germany. While serving, he also played on an Army football team in Germany and France. He was employed for thirty years at Westfield River Paper Co and retired in 1995. Stan enjoyed fishing, gardening, digging for antique bottles, furniture refinishing and watching Red Sox games. Stan is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Constance (Thayer) Herman, four sons and one daughter; David and wife Tara of Chester, Daniel and his fiancé Joanne of St. Augustine, FL, William and his wife Lynn of Chester, Gary and his wife Cynthia of Middlefield, daughter, Laura Fisk and her husband Darryl of Chester. He also leaves his seven grandchildren; Jessica, Ryan, Alison, Austin, Rebecca, Nicholas, Emily, and his great-granddaughter, Isla. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Evelyn Zielinski. His funeral and burial at Russell Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
