BOSTON – Thursday, Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Matthew Beaton announced that Carol Sanchez, CPA, will serve as Commissioner of the Department of Conservation and Recreation and Matthew Sisk will serve as Deputy Commissioner for Operations.
“Carol and Matt both share the Baker Administration’s vision of the importance of access and opportunity to enjoy the natural resources of the Commonwealth,” said Beaton. “I am confident in their qualifications and ability to enrich the lives of our state’s residents through outdoor recreation and I am excited to have them as members of the team at Energy and Environmental Affairs.”
“I thank Governor Baker, Lieutenant Governor Polito, and Secretary Beaton for the opportunity to join the administration and to put my skills and experiences to work on behalf of the Commonwealth,” said Sanchez. “With 449,000 acres of forests, parks, historic seashores, and bodies of water, the Department of Conservation and Recreation plays an integral role in the lives of Massachusetts residents, and I am eager to lead this agency forward.”

Sanchez most recently served as Managing Partner of her own Certified Public Accounting firm, Sanchez & Santiago, LLC, where she assisted entrepreneurs and international subsidiaries in growing their business. Sanchez has also held numerous positions at large, multi-national companies such as Staples, Timberland, Verizon and KPMG. In addition to her time serving on various Boards of Directors, she has received many awards for her volunteer work on behalf of women and minorities.
Sisk joins the Baker administration after working for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) since 2009. During his time at the SBA, Sisk worked in the Regional Administrators Office and was most recently assigned to the Massachusetts District Office as an Economic Development Specialist. Sisk has also held roles as Senior Advisor at the U.S. General Services Administration as well as Deputy Director of Board and Commission Appointments for Governor Jane Swift. He is an avid sportsman and conservationist belonging to Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, The Roughed Grouse Society, The Trustees of Reservations and serves as President of the English Pointer Associates of New England.
