WESTFIELD – The Westfield State Men’s Ice Hockey team will be holding its third annual “Pink in the Rink” night on tonigh at Amelia Park in Westfield. The Owls will host MASCAC rival Salem State at 7:35 p.m.
“The idea of the event is to raise awareness about all forms of cancer and raise as much money as we can for the local Cancer House of Hope to help aid cancer research,” said Westfield assistant hockey coach Mike Young.
One way to donate is to buy a jersey. The jerseys are white and pink and cost $75, with all the proceeds going to the local Cancer House of Hope.
“Each year we’ve been blessed to have a sponsor buy the team’s jerseys and this year we are also selling custom Westfield State pink hockey jerseys,” said Young.
The team will have pink jerseys with the names of people they love who have fought or are still fighting cancer.
General donations also are being collected at the game, with the puck dropping at 7:35.
“Our true goal is to honor those who have fought against and are currently fighting against cancer,” said Young.
If you wish to order a jersey, contact Westfield State athletics department secretary Terry Hamel at 413-572-5512. In addition, orders will be taken for jerseys through the end of the game.
“Our Pink-in-the-Rink game is to symbolize that we are all in this fight together and we are all here to support each other. Hopefully, that thought and the spirit of the game catch on and we can do some good and raise some money for cancer research,” said Young.
