Westfield State University to offer on-campus SAT course

WESTFIELD – Westfield State University, in partnership with Educational Testing Consultants, Inc. (ETC), will offer an on-campus SAT Summer Institute for high school students this summer from Monday, August 3, through Thursday, August 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The SAT Summer Institute involves 20 hours of classroom time, and students will also get access to online review sessions throughout September. Class sessions, led by experienced instructors, use real test questions to show just how these skills are tested on the SAT test. The SAT test preparation program covers all of the math and verbal skills needed for success on the SAT exam.
Quantitative topics that will be discussed include techniques for picking numbers containing variables, approaches to complicated geometry problems that involve more than one figure, and tactics for translating difficult word problems into equations.
Verbal topics that will be discussed include spotting correct idiomatic speech in sentence correction problems, recognizing key similarity and contrast indicators in sentence completion items, and knowing which parts of the passage to read for reading comprehension questions.
Additionally, the classes will include general test preparation topics such as utilizing the process of elimination, mastering time management skills, minimizing test anxiety, and identifying common distractors.
“We are happy to continue offering the SAT Summer Institute test preparation program in partnership with ETC. We are also very excited to be able to offer this useful program to area high school students who may be in need of additional support prior to taking the SAT,” said Jessica Tansey, acting director of Graduate & Continuing Education at Westfield State University.
The cost of the SAT Summer Institute is $499, which includes all books and materials required.
