SOUTHWICK, MA—Julius Holl, 93,(1922-2015) devoted husband of 68 years to Jean (Jerr) Holl, died December 25, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 17, 1922, in Westfield, to the late Julius and Eva (Tarczewska) Holl. Julius, known fondly as “Waco” by family and friends, was a resident of Southwick for over 60 years. He could often be found tending his garden or fishing and hunting.
Julius was a World War II U.S. Army combat veteran. He attained the rank of Section Sergeant, earning his Combat Infantry Badge. He was awarded 4 Bronze Service Stars for battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe.
From 1955 to 1980, Julius was the owner and operator of Julius Holl Plumbing & Heating. He then went on to work at Westfield State College for ten years, concurrently serving as Plumbing Inspector for the Town of Granville. Following his retirement from Westfield State, he continued his service to the Town of Granville.
He was a founding/charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in Southwick.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his 3 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, Emil and Martha Holl, Edmund and Lena Holl, Edwin Holl; and by his two sisters and two brothers-in-law Amelia and Art Leisegang and Edna and John Lewis, all of Westfield.
Besides his wife, Julius is survived by a son and his wife, Ronald J. and Janice Holl of Wales; a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Brian Elkins, of Grayslake, IL.; 3 grandchildren, Jessica Holl and her husband, Lars Behrendt, of Zurich, Switzerland, Christopher Holl and his wife Kate, of Plymouth, MA and Lindsay Elkins of Grayslake, IL; 2 great-grandchildren, Sophie and Charlotte Holl; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will take place from 9:00AM – 11:00AM on Wednesday morning, December 30, 2015 at the Southwick Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, (Highway 202/10) Southwick.
Funeral services follow at 11:00 AM with a procession to Christ Lutheran Church, Southwick for a 12:00 noon church service.
Burial will then follow with military honors, in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, 139 Lock House Rd., Westfield.
