BOSTON – State Senator Don Humason and Representative John Velis announced today that the Massachusetts Human Resource Division (HRD) will be holding written Municipal Civil Service Firefighter examinations on Saturday, April 16, 2016.
The list resulting from this exam will determine the pool of applicants eligible for appointment to the position of Firefighter in cities and towns covered by the Civil Service Statute for two years following the establishment of the eligible list.
The deadline to apply to take the exam is Tuesday, March 1, 2016.
Those interested can learn more about the examination process and apply online at www.mass.gov/civilservice. There is a $200 written examination fee, and an additional $50 late processing fee for any applications received after the March 1st deadline. Applications will not be accepted after March 21, 2016.
“My father is a retired Westfield Firefighter. I appreciate the dedication that firefighters display to their communities day in and day out,” said Humason. “It is important for the state to have a strong pool of candidates for these vital public safety positions in our cities and towns.”
“Firefighters are of the upmost importance to the safety and well-being of any community and its residents,” said Velis. “I encourage those who are interested in serving the public as a firefighter to take advantage of this opportunity.”
