SOUTHWICK – Marilyn “Skippy” Chunglo was called home on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. She was born September 20, 1921 in Gurnee, IL and graduated high school in Oak Park, IL. She attended Iowa State University where she met Charles F. Chunglo, her loving husband of 62 years who passed away March 27, 2005. She leaves her son, Calvin Chunglo, and his wife Mary Lou and their son Adam Chunglo and his wife Liz and their children Emily and Seth all of Harrodsburg, KT and their daughter Ellen Binsfeld and her husband Nick and their son James of Wadena, MN. Marilyn also leaves her daughter Tonie Ann White and her husband Ray and their daughter Andrea White of Agawam, MA and their son Josh White of Enfield, CT. Marilyn shared Southwick Grange Citizen of the Year Award in 2000 with husband “Chuck” in recognition for their lifetime of public service. Marilyn served as Consolidated School library volunteer/ Story Lady, Southwick Public Library volunteer, Library Trustee for 12 years, Republican Town Committee, Usher Captain at Stage West 20 years and was appointed by Gov. William Weld to the Mass. Board of Library Commissioners. She was a member for many years and filled all offices of both Southwick Women’s Club and the 14th District Presidents’ Club and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Mass. She attended Writer’s Group weekly for 16 years. As a member of Southwick Congregational Church since 1950, Marilyn taught Sunday school for 27 yrs., was a member of various committees and faithfully cooked and decorated for many church functions. Marilyn was employed at the Texas Highway Dept. and Iowa Highway Commission in bridge and road design, librarian at Victorville Air Force Base, in custom draperies at Forbes & Wallace and Mill End and manager of Fabric Fair. Marilyn Chunglo may be most known for her traveling “Twelve Days of Christmas” presentation and for her entertaining tales in Southwoods where her followers enjoyed over 90 true life stories published over the last 30 yrs. Marilyn was an energetic entertainer, cooking abundant meals for family and friends. To rest, she knit hats for hospital preemies, sweaters and hats for babies overseas and afghans for the VA Hospital. “Skippy” tirelessly served her family, friends, church and community. She was a loving, sacrificially giving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved to travel, sew and read. She will be greatly missed by her loving family, friends and Heritage Woods staff. Calling hours are from 4:00p.m. – 7:00p.m., Monday, May 9th, in the Southwick Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 624 College Highway (Highway 202/10) in Southwick. A celebration of life service will be held 10: 00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, Southwick Congregational Church, 488 College Highway, Southwick . Burial will follow in the New Cemetery, Southwick.
