A Helping Hand Needed at MusicFest Westfield

WESTFIELD – As organizers of Westfield on Weekends gear up for the third summer season hosting MusicFest Westfield, a call is out for volunteers to help out on the evenings of each concert.

A minimum of 12 volunteers per event would be ideal, however, that would require each person to work the entire evening, according to Tricia Kiefer, volunteer coordinator, Westfield on Weekends (WOW).

“It would be great for us to think about shifts for an hour or two long,” said Kiefer. “So the more people we have, the better it will be.”

MusicFest Westfield kicks off on June 16 with Still Kickin’ with the Big City Horns, a 60’s and 70’s rock band featuring Westfield High School’s music director Patrick Kennedy on trumpet and vocals. Lexi Wege and Friends will open the show at 6 p.m.

MusicFest continues on July 21 with a national country act provided by KIX and iHeart Radio, and ends on Aug. 25 with Tusk, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band. Jeff & Sam, playing contemporary acoustic music, will open the show on Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. A local act has not been posted yet for the July 21 event.

Kiefer said that volunteers are needed to sell raffle tickets, popcorn and water and to help monitor the perimeter of the Green.

“We need to remind the beer and wine enthusiasts to keep beer and wine on the Green,” she said.

Kiefer added that in addition to volunteers for the three nights for MusicFest, a “great deal of volunteer hours” behind the scenes help make the summer music series a reality.

“The WOW board and other similar boards in Westfield do a good deal of work and contribute hours and hours per week to make Westfield a city with so much to offer,” she said.

Kiefer has posted Survey Monkey on the Westfield on Weekends Facebook page for individuals to sign up to volunteer.

“We won’t turn anyone away,” she said, adding, “When community members contribute their time, which is very valuable, it demonstrates their commitment to the event and the community.”

Kiefer added that with many hands reaching out, the work is light for everyone.

“Volunteering helps us to continue to offer events to enrich our quality of life here in Westfield and the surrounding area,” she said. “I think it is also rewarding for the volunteer to know they are a part of something that brings a community together.”
