SOUTHWICK – The American Inn residents are grateful to the Southwick Fire Department (SFD) and its ambulance services. So grateful, in fact, residents collected $3,225 to donate to the department.
Yesterday a check was presented to the SFD on behalf of the residents.
“They are frequent visitors here,” said American Inn Residence Association treasurer Donna Horrigan. “We are appreciative of the services they render here.”
Fire Chief Richard Anderson said it is nice to be appreciated.
“We certainly do respond to numerous calls at the American Inn, but the people here are wonderful,” Anderson sad.
Donations to the SFD’s ambulance fund are not uncommon, however; Anderson said they are not usually so large.
“A donation of this size is truly amazing,” he said. “This is very nice.”
Anderson said the money will be placed in the department’s ambulance fund for equipment.
In the past, the Fireman’s Association has held fundraisers for the ambulance fund and was even able to purchase ambulances for the SFD in the past.
“Over the years, the Association has donated over a million dollars in equipment,” Anderson said. “And this donation from the American Inn is wonderful.”
