Rep. Velis weekly update

Good morning Westfield! I hope everyone is enjoying the first weekend of fall. Here is an update from the past week!

On Tuesday Westfield celebrated the completion of an eight month project to build a solar farm on Russellville Road. Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito paid a visit to Westfield to celebrate this occasion. This project is a wonderful example of what can come from hard work and a vision. Before this project began, the site of these solar panels had been covered with construction debris and required quite a bit of clean up. ConEdison Development, the owner of the newly constructed panels, was not deterred by this.

In her remarks the Lt. Governor Polito highlighted the importance of this new solar project. Most developers would have looked at this location and passed it by because there was too much work to be done. Instead, this project was completed which has multiple positive effects. It cleaned up debris, provided another source of renewable energy in our Commonwealth and here in Westfield. This solar project is an excellent addition to the city of Westfield. ConEdison has partnered with Westfield Gas and Electric and will be providing ratepayers with a stable source of renewable energy.

Today I am spending my morning participating in an wonderful event put on by the United Way of Pioneer Valley. The program, called “Operation Money Wise,” is a financial literacy event for veterans. Throughout the morning veterans will have the opportunity to participate in a number of workshops dealing with topics like budgeting, financial planning, loan information and more. The knowledge and skills that will be discussed are critical and will be very helpful to those who attend.

After that I’ll be heading over to the Athenaeum for the kickoff of the Rise to Knowledge Campaign. This campaign is aimed at raising the funds necessary to complete renovations to this historic building. The proposed renovations will include improvements to parking and various entrances to the building.

That’s all for this week Westfield! As always, feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns at 413-572-3920 or [email protected]
