Greeting Westfield! I hope you are all having a great weekend. Here is a quick update from this past week.
This week in Boston the legislature sent H4664 onto Governor Baker’s desk. This supplemental spending bill came out of the House Committee on Ways and Means and subsequently passed both branches of the legislature on Thursday. As a part of this bill, $60 million will come out of the State’s Convention Center Fund to be used for general spending.
This bill accomplishes a variety of different things. This includes additional funding for the Department of Children and Families, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the Committee on Public Counsel Services, among others. Additionally, the newly formed Division of Transportation Network Services, established to regulate the ride-hailing app industry, will receive funding as well.
Outside sections of this bill dealt with things other than funding. One such section will rename a bridge in the city of Boston the ”David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz Bridge.” This addition came as a way to celebrate Ortiz’s career with the Boston Red Sox in and his charitable contributions within the Commonwealth.
In Westfield this week I had the pleasure of speaking with students at Westfield State University about the importance of civic engagement and getting out to vote! It was great to have the chance to talk with students about this important right of ours. On Thursday, I headed over to march in the parade for Westfield Day at the Big E. It was great to be there to celebrate 100 years of the Bug E.
That’s it for this week Westfield! Enjoy the rest of the weekend. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns at [email protected] or my district office phone 413-472-3920
