Local manufacturer will be unveiling new line of tools

WESTFIELD—The makers of the locally-produced tool the ErgieShovel are debuting a new line of items next week.

Ergie Systems, which is owned and operated by Westfield-based entrepreneur Nabil Hannoush, will be debuting their spring collection of long-handle tools. The company, which is Westfield-based, will begin selling a total of 14 new tools for use around the yard and home.

The tools will all be long-handle tools, which is what the company specializes in. Long-handle tools are ones such as shovels and rakes, which have a long handle shaft for manual operation of the device. Ergie Industries is the first and only company with a patent on long-handle tools.

A list of the equipment includes: Ergie Rake, Ergie Garden Rake, Ergie Pointed Shovel, an Ergie Pushbroom and more.

The origin of the company came after Hannoush was introduced to the idea of a shovel that utilizes arm, upper back and leg strength to move snow, rather than the lower back, by Ralph Thresher, who teaches safety, including proper lifting and other safety measures, to employees for companies.

“He came up with the idea because he saw that people were using their backs to lift and he said there must be a better way,” Hannoush said. “I was so amazed at how well it worked.”

Ergie Systems is based out of Westfield, and currently has 12 employees. Their products can be found in the following retailers: Big Y, CVS, Walmart, Home Depot, Rocky’s Hardware, Ace Hardware, Agway, Westfield Home and Garden upon re-opening, Westfield Feed and Supplies and True Value.
