Westfield- Richard Roland Fontaine, 69, (1947-2017) of Westfield passed away Sunday at home. He was born in Holyoke on July 13th, 1947 to the late Jennie (Burchfiel) and Roland Fontaine. He was raised in Aldenville and lived in West Springfield for years before settling in Westfield in 1998. He worked as a machinist, and retired as a Supervisor from American Saw. He graduated from Precious Blood High School formerly of Holyoke and later received an Associate’s Degree in Business Management from STCC. He was a U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran and was the recipient of 5 Bronze Stars and 1 Silver Star for his service while serving in Vietnam. He loved fishing and boating. He was formerly a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 111. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield. Loving husband of 47 yrs. to Barbara A. (Peterson) Fontaine, to whom he proposed the very first night they met. He was the beloved father of Jeffrey R. Fontaine and his wife Maria of Feeding Hills, devoted grandfather of Jonathan Fontaine and his fiancé Kianna Chechile, and Jessica and Christopher Fontaine. Richard also leaves his two cherished Yorkies, Noelani and Lilyana.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10 AM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield followed at 11 AM by a Funeral Mass at St. Rose De Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee. Burial will be at St. Michaels Cemetery in Springfield. Calling hours are Wed. from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
