11:55 a.m.: fraud, Chestnut Street, a resident came to the station to complain that he was the victim a scam, the responding officer reports the man said that he had been online when his computer alerted him of a virus attack and advised him call a specified number to remove the virus, the man said that he was told that his computer could be cleansed at a cost of $400, when the man said he could not afford that, he was allowed to make two payments, the man said he paid $185 and realized he had been scammed a few days later when there was no further contact with the purported computer repair experts;
1:57 p.m.: school investigation, Westfield Technical Academy, 33 Smith Ave., a school resource officer reports he investigated a reported assault and battery which occurred in physical education class in which one pupil repeatedly spat at another;
2:52 p.m.: found property, King Street Extension, a person came to the station to surrender a hat, pack of cigarettes and set of keys found at Bullens Field, the responding officer reports a store loyalty card was attached to the keys and store officials agreed to attempt to contact the owner;
3:01 p.m.: animal complaint, Susan Drive, an animal control officer reports that she took custody of a severely matted stray tabby cat and transported it to the animal shelter;
4:36 p.m.: fraud, Ely Street, caller reports an on-line scam, the responding officer reports the complainant said that he had offered lawn mower for sale on the CriagsList website and a purchaser sent him a check which included $550 to pay for a driver to transport the machine, the victim sent the money requested to the “driver” in Tennessee and when he realized he had been scammed found it too late to stop payment on his check;
6:45 p.m.: larceny, Whitney Playground, Shepard Street, a woman came to the station to complain that a known male party stole her vape pen valued at $40, the responding officer reports he was able to speak with the suspect who agreed to return the device.
