Congamond Road project on course

SOUTHWICK – Pereira Construction of Ludlow, Mass., has been continues work on installing the new drainage system along Congamond Rd..

“They will continue until the drainage work is done and then they’ll move on to the next phase of the project,” said Southwick DPW Director Randy Brown.

According to Brown, the next phase of the project would be the widening of Congamond Road.

Besides working on the drainage, Pereira is also conducting tree removal in order to install a new detention basin for the drainage. Brown added that the contractor has gotten a little hung up on the drainage aspect due to an abundance of rock and ledge in the ground. Pereira construction will be using their on-site equipment in order to chip away at the material and remove it.

“I think you’ll then see the progress get much better,” said Brown.

On June 15, the Westfield News reported that the Congamond Road project had begun by Pereira working on below grade utilities and starting the drainage process.

Mass DOT is funding the $4.1 million project and has complete oversight.  The project includes a new drainage system, a sidewalk on the south side of the road, and new bike lanes.

The majority of the Congamond Road project is expected to continue through the fall and into the winter as weather permits. Pereira is scheduled to provide the final paving on the road in April 2019.
