Arthur M. Landis, Jr.

Westfield – Arthur M. “Skip” Landis, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Weldon, Iowa to the late Lucia M. (Howell) and Arthur M. Landis, Sr. He graduated from Weldon High School in 1955 and joined the US Air Force in October 1955 and was honorably discharged in October of 1959, as an Airman Second Class. Skip was the manager for Silver Street Superette for 21 years, then five
years at Westfield Coatings, and retired in 1999 after 15 years as dispatcher for the Southwick Police Department. Skip was a communicant of St. Peters and St. Casmirs Church for sixty-one years, where he volunteered as a helper on many parish celebrations. He and his wife MaryLou have a place in Wells Maine, where they have spent thirty-seven years in the summer seasons. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Red Sox, Bruins, UCONN Girls Basketball, and of course the Iowa Hawkeye’s and Cyclones.
His favorite thing after he retired was to sit in his beach chair at the Wells jetty watching the ocean. He loved playing golf with his buddies in the Bear’s Den Golf League. Many a day around 4PM, you could see him wander down to the pool for happy hour, where he and his pals would discuss and solve the worlds problems. He celebrated his four grandchildren, their accomplishments in life and their respect for others. He will be surely missed by all of us. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Louise (Monko) Landis, his children, Torey L. Benoit and Tim Mulligan of Woodside, CA, Robert D. Landis and his wife Rhonda of Granville and Arthur M. Landis, III and his wife Janice of South Berwick, ME, four grandchildren, Christopher Benoit, Savannah Landis, Nicholas Landis and Madison Landis and his sister Nancy Hendrickson of Iowa. He was predeceased a son Arthur M. Landis, his sisters Joanne and her husband Robert Strohm, Jerry and her husband Cleo Cory and his brother-in-law, Wayne Hendrickson.
Skip’s funeral will be held on Friday at 10AM from the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield, followed by a Mass at 11AM in St. Peter’s and St. Casmir’s Church, 34 State St. Westfield. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7 PM in the funeral home.
