Suspected predator arrested

EDGAR DELVALLE

WESTFIELD – A Chicopee man who allegedly attempted to pursue a romantic relationship with a city woman – and her 17-month-old daughter – has been arrested.
City police report that a woman called at 8:56 p.m. Monday to report that she had received “disturbing messages” from a man she met on a dating website.
Det. Andrew Cekovsky reports in a court document that the suspect “engaged in an inappropriate conversation with the victim about her 17 month old daughter” and “would not take ‘no’ for an answer as he pleaded with her to meet her daughter.”
Although the woman pointed out that her daughter was 17-months-old, Det. Cekovsky reports, the man continued to send inappropriate messages some of which described proposed interactions with the young child.
The woman “gave him an address to meet up at”, Cekovsky reports, and when the suspect arrived at the woman’s apartment complex he was met by police.
Cekovsky reports that the man, subsequently identified as Edgar Delvalle, 39, of 61 Chestnut St., Chicopee, fought with police and resisted their efforts to take him into custody.
Officer Terry Manos noted that Delvalle “broke and attempted to destroy his own cell phone as the officers approached him in an effort to destroy any/all evidence contained within the phone.”
Delvalle was arraigned Monday before Judge William Rota in Westfield District Court on charges of enticing a child younger than 16 years-of-age, assault and battery on a police officer, withholding evidence from a criminal proceeding and resisting arrest.
He was held in lieu of $10,000 cash bail pending an Aug. 30 hearing.
