SOUTHWICK – A 33-year-old female is facing charges of drunken driving, operating to endanger, marked lanes violation, child endangerment, and assault and battery on ambulance personnel after crashing her vehicle into a pole on Monday afternoon.
According to Southwick Chief of Police Kevin Bishop, Stacey M. Thomas of Otis crashed her motor vehicle into a utility pole at around 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon with a 1-year-old boy in the backseat.
Thomas was traveling south bound on College Hwy in a black 2007 Audi, two individuals spotted the woman swerving and reported it to Southwick police officers who were at a nearby gas station. After the officers pursued the report, they arrived near Blossoming Acres on College Hwy, to find the motor vehicle crashed into a utility pole that was snapped in half.
Southwick Police reported that prior to Thomas hitting the pole, she sped off from the Mobile Station at 600 College Hwy after shoplifting from the store.
Both Thomas and the 1-year-old boy were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield to be evaluated, but were found to have no injuries.
Thomas is being summoned to court to face the charges of drunken driving, operating to endanger, marked lanes violation, child endangerment, and two counts of assault and battery on ambulance personnel.
Due to the accident, the section of College Hwy from The Notch Travel Center to Congamond Road had was closed for parts of Monday. The road was closed for approximately an hour then temporarily reopened. The road was closed again briefly as Eversource arrived to fix and repair the broken utility pole. By Monday evening all traffic was flowing normally.
