Southwick- Robert Leon Miller, “Moose”, 91, (1927 – 2018) passed away on September 12, 2018 at Renaissance Manor, Holyoke; surrounded by his loving granddaughters. “Moose” was born in Brattleboro, Vermont and grew up in Franklin, New Hampshire, where he attended and graduated from Franklin High School. He enjoyed boxing, football and the outdoors. He joined the U.S. Navy in March of 1945 and served his country honorably in both W.W. II and the Korean Conflict. He was a diver who repaired the ships. “Moose” was very active in the Southwick Community: including Our Lady of the Lake Church, Emergency Management, Westfield Sportsman Club, Woodland Elementary, the VFW, and Shriner’s Hospital. “Moose” was an avid hunter and fisherman from his teen age years until his late 80’s. He was also a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Green Bay Packers. He married Annette Blais in the 1940’s; they divorced in 1983. He later married Elsie Dittman; until her passing on April 27, 2018. He was also predeceased by his son, Michael; and his siblings, William Miller and Sandra Moore.
“Moose is survived by his loving granddaughters and their spouses, Shannon and Jay Fournier, Cynthia and Kerry Marsh; 5 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. He also is survived by his step children, step grandchildren, and their families; along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The calling hours are from 4:00PM – 7:00PM on Friday (September 14, 2018) in the Southwick Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick.
Funeral services will begin at 9:30AM on Saturday (September 15, 2018) from the funeral home. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00AM in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Sheep Pasture Road, Southwick. Burial with military honors will follow in the New Cemetery, on College Highway, Southwick.
