The Westfield Council On Aging and the Occupational Therapy Department at Springfield College will once again collaborate to offer a limited number of older adults in Westfield a unique home assessment opportunity. Pairs of students determine the level of safety and convenience in the home of their assigned older participant by conducting a home visit and an interview. The students address problem areas and make recommendations in a written report that is reviewed by the class professor, Dr. Joan Simmons. Participants receive a copy of the report so that they can implement any of the recommendations if they choose to do so. This is a wonderful opportunity for older adults with any mobility or sensory limitations to discover how they might function more easily and independently at home.
