To my friends throughout Westfield, and especially in Ward 3. I want to add an addendum to my previous editorial. First and foremost a bit of voter savvy and civics lesson. You do NOT have to vote for every position open, or every Question. In fact, if you do not like the candidates offered, a BLANK BALLOT is important to you. It says that whoever wins is weak in your district. This may encourage someone new to run next time, or it may encourage the winner to look at what they are doing. Another important thought is that you are an American, you do NOT have to vote for every D or R on the ballot. Your loyalty is to the Common Good. You are responsible for those you hire, as you pay, and are effected as well as everyone in your district. Sounds good, or right is not enough. It is the reality/facts of what can happen. Mind blinded by ideology is foolhardy; this is not a sport, it our lives. You may love the team, and want to be the stands cheering and celebrating, but, your favorite sports teams does not determine how you live. Some want everything to go business, others to people services; that does not and cannot work. We, as well as our nation is multi-functional dependent. We need agriculture, business and commerce, law and order, sciences, public services etc. (after all this nation was created by of and for the many to be able to develop and advance). And each has different needs and necessities to function well. Without a part well-functioning we suffer the consequences. Oh, I do not need this or that, wrong; unless you can do it all yourself???? And, as one of my standard comments goes: Life Costs.
Part II, I forgot to mention County candidates: For me; Cheryl Coakley Rivera for Register of Deeds. I have known her for many years, and know that she is responsible, smart, capable and competent. Mary Hurley for Governor’s Councilor. Likewise I have known Mary since her days as Mayor of Springfield, and likewise competent, smart, and capable. As well, has a commitment to Western Ma., and getting out judicial appointments filled as promptly as possible with the best qualified appointees. Anthony Gulluni, our DA, has been doing an exceptional job of not just in court but in developing assets and resources that serve our needs in the area of crime, and crime prevention.
Again thank you for voting Tomorrow, your former Ward 3 City Councilor, Brian Hoose…[email protected]
