SOUTHWICK – The deadline for interested parties to buy or lease the Old Library was Tuesday at 10 a.m. and one party has submitted a bid. Tynic Landscaping submitted a bid of $12,323.19 to buy the property.
Tynic Landscaping owner Scott Lamon informed the Westfield News that he’d be looking to use the Old Library building as an independent office for bookkeeping and sales calls for his landscaping business.
Although Tynic Landscaping was the only entity to submit a bid, the bid now has to go through a process before Tynic can attempt to sign a purchase and sales agreement to officially buy the property. According to Chief Administrative Officer Karl Stinehart, the town is now working with town counsel to review the bid proposal. If town counsel approves the bid, it will go to the Select Board to vote and see if they will allow the purchase and sales agreement.
On November 30, the Town of Southwick held an open house for anyone interested and five different parties showed up.
Located on 475 College Hwy, the Old Library has been around since the 1890’s and is considered to be one of the most historic buildings in town. The building consists of 2,474 sq. ft. of interior space.
Originally, the town put the building up for lease in August of 2017. After having a number of site visits to allow any interested parties to inquire about leasing the old library, the town didn’t receive any serious offers.
