GRANVILLE – A fire was caused as a result of a motor vehicle accident early on Thursday morning.
According to Granville Police Lt. Rick Rindels, a single-car motor vehicle accident occurred just after midnight on Thursday morning when the operator of the vehicle hit a utility pole and the pole snapped in half, leaning over the vehicle.
Upon arrival, Granville police and fire discovered the vehicle engulfed in flames and the operator had already left the vehicle and fled the scene.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, but were on scene for several hours in order to wait for Eversource to repair the utility pole and have the vehicle towed as it was completely totaled.
Rindels added that the cause of the crash and the fire is not known at this time. Granville Police is actively looking for the lone individual that was involved in the accident and fled the scene.
