WESTFIELD – Lynne Anne (Loe Sack-Sioe) McDermott, 87, died peacefully surrounded with love, joining her dear mother, Ethleda (Chan) Loe Sack-Sioe, father, Richenal Loe Sack-Sioe, and her siblings, Hermine, Annette, Madeleine, and Kenneth in their eternal rest on Saturday, February 8, 2020.
Lynne Anne was born on October 8, 1932, in Maracas Valley, Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies, where she attended and graduated from St. Joseph’s Convent School and headed to Chicago, Illinois to attend beauty school. In 1955, Lynne Anne met the love of her life on her birthday, Edward J. McDermott, a Marine Sergeant stationed at the Chaguaramas Military Base on the island. Edward went on to become the Mayor of Westfield from 1980 to 1982. Lynne Anne and Ed moved to Springfield, Massachusetts in 1957 to start their life together. Lynne Anne worked in many roles at Westfield State College and retired as the Office Manager in the Education Department. Lynne Anne was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending much of her time on all of her favorite courses in the area and in Trinidad with her husband and large circle of friends. Lynne Anne and Ed were members at many courses including: Moka Country Club in Trinidad, WI, Tekoa Country Club, Shaker Farms Country Club, Crest View Country Club and most recently at The Ranch in Southwick. Lynne Anne devoted decades of her life as a volunteer at Western Mass Hospital and was beloved member in the community by all that were blessed to know her, including Big Y on East Silver St. A devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s Parish, she served God in all areas of her life. Lynn Anne was known for her hilarious sense of humor, love for all people and dedication to her faith and her family. There will simply never be another like her. She was a love “sprite”. Lynne Anne leaves her husband of 63 years Edward J. McDermott, (Ed always referred to her as his “gracious First Lady”) her sisters, Sr. Reina Loe Sack-Sioe, Dorothy Gunn, and her husband Roger, all of Trinidad, WI, and sister-in-law Kathleen (McDermott) Pond, and her husband, Edward, and God-son, Ryan of Walnutport, PA; and cherished children Sr. Annette McDermott, SSJ, Suzanne Murphy, Wendy Philip and her husband Todd Philip, Kevin LaFlamme and his wife Nancy LaFlamme. Lynn Anne’s children were the pride and joy of her life as well as her beloved Grandchildren, Aimee McDermott, Evan Murphy, Meghan Murphy and husband Mark Avery, Bobby LaFlamme, Leena LaFlamme, Kane Miller and Kayleigh Miller who all lovingly referred to her as “Nini”. In addition, Lynn Anne leaves her Great Grandchildren Efrain Flores III, Kielen Avery, Drew Dekarski and Daniel Minelli Jr.
Lynne Anne’s wake will be held on Wednesday February 12 from 4pm-7pm at Firtion Adams Funeral home and the Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Parish on Bartlett St on February 13th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Mary’s Parish School Development Fund and the Sisters of St. Joseph.
