WESTFIELD – Donald “Don” David Prizio Hunter, 84, passed away on April 2, 2020 at Baystate Medical Center from complications from the COVID-19 Virus. He was born March 11, 1936 in East Brookfield to Marcus and Frances Hunter. After his dad’s murder in 1938 in N. Grafton, MA, he took his step father’s name as Donald Prizio going through grammar school, returning to his original name when entering the United States Marine and was a disabled vet in the Army serving with the 160TH Regiment 40th division in Korea, being awarded the SGNA AHCE Medal by the President of Korea. Don graduated from local schools and was a teacher at Westfield High School for 24 years in Mechanical drawing, architecture and drivers education. Don was also the faculty manager and was for many years the supervisor for swimming for the City of Westfield. Don also worked on the PSAT’s and many other jobs at Westfield High. Prior to teaching, Don worked for 10 years at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, CT in the pre-experimental engineering department. Don was a past recreation commissioner for the town of East Longmeadow and belonged to the NEA, MTA, Elks, Moose and the NEBSA. He was owner of Quabog Books and Mecdah and sold his books at many flea markets and mail order all over the world. Don was a part time resident of Surigao for many years and in the past traveling quite extensively onto Tibet, Singapore, Amsterdam and many other places.
He is survived by his wife Maria Ella (Centro) Hunter and his children, Donald Jr of Orlando, FL, Janet Nash and her husband Roger of Longwood, FL, Michael and his wife Yoselyn of Orlando, FL, Patty Dominik and her husband Gerald of Chesapeake, Virginia, Christine Clark and her husband Richard of Sebastian, Florida, Nathan Hunter of Sebastian, Florida, Mark Hunter and his wife Nancy of West Springfield, MA and Caitlin Hunter of Tuscumbia, Alabama, a brother Phillip Prizio of Worcester, MA and was predeceased by his sister Martha Robbins of Florida. www.firtionadams.com
