Mary (Mickey) S. Allen (Shea)

 

NEVADA: Mary (Mickey) S. Allen (Shea), 78, passed away January 7, 2021, from natural causes. Mickey was born January 1, 1943, in Springfield, MA to Harold (Skip) and Gertrude (Toots) Shea and raised in Westfield, MA. She was married to CDR Mark E. Allen. Mickey was the second of six children and attended Saint Mary’s School in Westfield, MA. She received a BA degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA in 1966. In 1979 she received a Juris Doctor degree from the Western New England College School of Law, Springfield, MA and passed the Massachusetts State Bar Exam. From 1979-1983 Mickey served as a Lieutenant and attorney in the US Navy Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps in Yokosuka, Japan. In 1987 she became a member of the California State Bar and practiced as a California Workers’ Compensation Attorney until 2003. She and Mark then moved to Las Vegas, NV, where she worked as a Social Security Disability Attorney until she retired. Mickey was known and loved for her wit, friendliness, and incredible honesty. She was always the person that others turned to so that they could get help with the little difficulties in their lives. She was easily approachable and always took the time to listen to others and help them. Mickey loved reading, traveling, playing Trivial Pursuit, and attending musical plays. She was also known to break out singing at any time. She particularly liked the song “The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow” from the musical Annie which reflected her view of life.
Mickey is survived by her husband of forty years, CDR Mark E. Allen, sisters Kathy Wolfe (Gene) and Eileen Pettengill (Dave) of Las Vegas, NV, brother Chris Shea (Tracey Bey) of Westfield, MA, stepdaughters Stephanie Demeter (Lou) of San Ramon, CA, Sydney McLaughlin (Mick) of Alamo, CA, granddaughter Emma McLaughlin, and grandsons Mark Demeter, Mickey McLaughlin, and Jack McLaughlin, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mickey is preceded in death by her sister Pat McBride, her brother Chip Shea, and her parents Skip and Toots Shea of Westfield, MA. Mickey will be buried at sea by the US Navy on a ship out of San Diego, CA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute gift to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org).
