WESTFIELD – David J. Simm (1934-2023) passed away peacefully July 6th, 2023 at Avon Health Center in Avon CT. He lived in Westfield MA for the past 30+ years and was 88 years old. Born in Boston MA to Fred Simm and (Mary) Amy Simm who had moved to the US from England, he graduated from Roslindale High School in 1952. Having served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War when he was stationed in Japan, he was honorably discharged having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1957. He then attended Wentworth Institute of Technology and later obtained his MBA from Babson College. He worked as an Executive in Aerospace and power generation manufacturing, starting out as an Engineer at Split Ball Bearings in NH and moving into management at Litton Industries in Weymouth MA, Storms Forge in Springfield MA, and retiring as COO and CEO from Doncasters in 2001. A highly intelligent man, he enjoyed sharing knowledge and stories with others – both financial and business aspects, as well as travel and golf – often peppered by his dry, British humor.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Karen Aborjaily Simm DMD, as well as by his brother Fred Simm and sister Elizabeth Johnson.
He is survived by his children Linda Renne (and husband Gary) of Angier NC, Nancy Simm (and partner Ernest Lawas) of Simsbury CT, and David Simm (and wife Amanda) of Westfield MA, and his grandchildren Nathaniel Renne and Sydney Williams (and husband Hunter), as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
An avid golfer and tennis player he also very much enjoyed Pitch (or any card game he could get others to join him in) with friends and family, and at Twin Hills Country Club and Springfield Country Club. He enjoyed traveling extensively until his later years. He was a patron of the arts, an animal lover, and had a love of all ice cream and gelato! There was nothing he couldn’t do well and nothing that didn’t warrant 100% effort. He enjoyed woodworking and gifted many beautiful wood gifts and furniture to family members.
