WESTFIELD – Betty F. (Washburn) Bodendorf, 97, (1926-2023) passed away on Saturday, July 29th, 2023 at Linda Manor in Leeds. She was born and raised in Montgomery MA to the late Levi Edson and Lena (Pueschel) Washburn in 1926 and was a 1941 graduate of Westfield High School. Additionally, she graduated from Mass State College with honors in 1945. Betty worked as a chemist for Stanley Home Products for two years and then stayed home to raise her family. She was the secretary for St. John’s Church for over 20 years, was a member for over 60 years, and a member of the Women in God’s Service. In 1945 she married Warren J. Bodendorf, and they were married for 63 years before his passing in 2008. She was also predeceased by a sister, Barbara Lee, and two brothers Gerald and George Washburn.
Betty is survived by her loving children, Kurt Bodendorf and his wife Anne of Westfield, Jan Bodendorf of Vermont, Kris Bodendorf and his wife Luann Rose of Westfield and Jay Bodendorf of Montgomery MA; her brother Gene Washburn of Montgomery, her sister Arlene Bodurtha of Fitchburg, her cherished grandchildren, Jarren and his wife Stephanie, Karen Bodendorf, Kristen Botta and her husband Alfonso, Kate Bodendorf and Jennifer Houle and her husband Nate; great-grandchildren, Shane Bodendorf, Hunter Benoit, Dominic and Logan Houle and Alessia and Angelo Botta and three step-grandchildren, Brennan, Ethan and Ronan Davenport.
Her funeral will be held on August 6th at 3 p.m. in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 60 Broad St., Westfield. A Visiting Hour will precede the service from 1-3 p.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
