CHICOPEE – Donna M. (Chretien) Somppi, 77, (1946–2024) passed away peacefully on Friday, March 15th, 2024 at Baystate Medical Center, with her loving family at her side. Born December 7th, 1946, daughter of the late Rene and Irene “Joyce” (Rudnicki) Chretien, she was a graduate of Chicopee High School, Class of 1964. Donna continued her education at Mansfield Beauty Academy, earning her certificate in hairdressing. She owned and operated Main Street Hair Company in Westfield along with her treasured business partners.
Family was of most importance to Donna and she was an amazing, devoted “Grammy” to her six grandchildren. Donna is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-five years, James Somppi; loving sons, James Somppi, Jr. and wife Amy, of FL, and Christopher Somppi and wife Carrie, of Westfield; cherished grandchildren, Madison, Alex, Nate, Victoria, Charlotte, and Charlie Somppi; special cousin, Sandra Beeler; niece Camille and nephew Robbie; and devoted canine companion, Lily.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours for Donna on Thursday, March 21st, from 4-6 p.m., with a prayer service at 5 p.m., in Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front Street, Chicopee. A graveside committal service and burial will follow on Friday, the 22nd, at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Chicopee.
