John Osborne Clapp

SOUTHWICK – After a short heroic battle with cancer John Osborne Clapp (December 14, 1946-October 12, 2024) passed away at 77 years old, on October 12th. Born and raised in Suffield, CT, John followed his call to patriotism and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during Vietnam War earning a purple heart and bronze star. This led into a career in the Army National guard where he achieved the highest rank possible for an enlisted member.

Becoming a resident of Southwick Mass and residing with his wife of 31 years Pauline Brzoska -Clapp, he took pride in turning his residence into one of the most well-known landmarks in town. When not maintaining the property, you could find John in his garage working on his passion project his 1939 Ford Coupe, which after many years he was able to enjoy driving before he fell ill.

While John would showcase a Gruff exterior, he was always first to assist those he knew that were in need, allowing many to be able to make their way through life and achieve their goals. He was also begrudgingly a loving caretaker to many feline friends and a few massive mutts throughout the years.

John is survived by his wife Pauline, of Southwick, MA., His daughter, Lori (Clapp) Novak of Suffield, CT. His son, Christopher Clapp his wife Danielle of Brookline, MA. Three grandchildren Jeffery Novak, Michael Novak and Isabella Clapp. He is also survived by Pauline’s children Stanley Brzoska, wife Susan, Steven Brzoska his wife Mary, Stephanie Couture, Sue her husband John Dziengelewski, Samantha Winiarski, her husband Michael, and while not biologically related many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he created nicknames for, and who lovingly called him ” Grandpa J”, as well as many friends. Special thanks to his daughter Lori, who dedicated her time and love to him during his short battle.

John will be greatly missed by so many. We all love you so much.

In Memory of John, next time you hear “Old time rock & roll”, please smile and remember the good times.
