WESTFIELD – Barbara A. (White) Hagan, 91, of Westfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on October 20th, 2026, in Agawam, Massachusetts. Born in Chicopee on October 31st, 1934, to the late Katherine E. and Austin E. White, she was the beloved wife of the late Walter F. Hagan for 64 years and the cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend of many.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Walter of Westfield, MA, and her brother, Douglas J. White (Barbara) of Ann Arbor, MI.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia H. Egerton (Durand) of Middletown, CT; her son Timothy F. Hagan (Lynn) of Reading, MA; her grandson Christopher F. Hagan of Wakefield, MA; her grandson Matthew T. Hagan (Amanda) of Wakefield, MA; her granddaughter Caroline A. Hagan of Reading, MA; her sister Roselyn R. Bagley (Thomas) of Stratford, CT; her sister Elizabeth J. Orlandi (Ronald) of Westfield, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara dedicated much of her working life to service in her community. She was an elementary and home-bound schoolteacher in the Westfield School System and later served as a Billing and Collections Clerk for Westfield Gas & Electric Co., where she made lifelong friends.
Barbara found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was a voracious reader, a master of crossword puzzles, and took delight in needlepoint, knitting, and hook rug crafting. She enjoyed adult lap swims at the Westfield YMCA, eagerly anticipated BINGO nights at St. Mary’s High School, and relished day excursions with her “mystery rider” girlfriends. Summer vacations in Hampton Beach, NH; Ogunquit, ME; Vero Beach, FL; and Falmouth, MA created treasured family memories. Nothing brought her greater happiness than cheering on her grandchildren at their many sporting events. Barbara’s baking skills were legendary.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregiver staff at The Atrium at Cardinal Drive in Agawam, MA, and to her hospice caregivers for years of loving and compassionate care.
All memorial services will be private. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Parish, 30 Bartlett Street, Westfield, MA 01085.
