RUSSELL – It is with great sadness that we announce that Howard Robert Noe died on October 24th, 2026, peacefully in his home surrounded by his family.
Howard was born on August 15th, 1942, in Westfield Massachusetts, the son of Ruth Noe and Howard Poulin. He met the love of his life on a double date and married Sandra Elizabeth Switzer 6 months later on November 11th, 1961.
After dropping out of high school, he returned to earn a bachelor’s degree then a Master of Education from Westfield State College, being the first in his family to graduate from college. The feat was more remarkable for working full time to support his wife and children in the process. He went on to teach 8th grade Science at Gateway Regional Middle School for over 20 years where he was known for his booming voice and soft heart.
After an early retirement, he continued his love of teaching and counseling with a second career as the minister of Montgomery Community Church in June of 2000 for more than 25 years. Having survived a difficult childhood, he held a special place in his heart for those who were troubled and loved nothing more than helping those in need. He lived his life by 1 John 3:17-18: “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
He leaves behind his children: Cherie Noe, Howard Noe, Kevin Noe, Aimee Goguen, Sean Noe, and Michelle Albitz; son-in-law David Hudacek, sisters-in-law Tina (Smith) Noe and Danielle (Welner) Noe; 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Carol Renaud, Chester Broughton, Vicki Cornelius, Dale Rock and Steven Poulin; numerous nieces, nephews, and foster children. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Sandra, and his brother Charles (Chucky) Broughton.
Visiting hours will be held at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield MA from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 31st, 2026, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. and graveside committal at Russell Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to Montgomery Community Church, PO Box 463, Russell, MA 01071. www.firtionadams.com
