CHICOPEE – A relief effort to help the “Forgotten Island” get the support and supplies they desperately need was held Friday. “Fill the Truck” was an effort to collect supplies for residents of Staten Island, New York hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. This event took place today at the Hukelau Restaurant parking lot at 705 Memorial Drive, Chicopee, MA. Items were dropped off starting at 9:00 am until 7:00 pm.
Many local businesses took part in this much needed relief effort. McNamara Waste, Bee-Line trailer sales, Go Graphix, Pioneer Packaging, NUVO Bank & Trust, and Rocky’s Ace Hardware were just a few of the businesses offering their services. Local entertainer John Berman performed at the Hukelau parking lot from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The idea started with Darlene Sattler, owner of Technique Studio of Dance in South Hadley, MA. Darlene’s daughter lives in New York City and witnessed the destruction firsthand. If you would like to volunteer or donate, contact Darlene Sattler at [email protected].
