SPRINGFIELD – When Whalley Computers Vice President of Operations, Tim Hanson saw destruction and devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy, he knew he wanted to do something. While the local community was not heavily impacted by the storm, our neighbors to the south were and still are in dire need. In efforts to assist in any way they could four Whalley employees deployed to Connecticut on November 1 with the Red Cross Pioneer Valley through the Red Cross Ready When the Time Comes Program. They assisted with disaster assessment and logistics.
Still wanting to do more, the company took up a collection for Sandy relief and offered an employee match. Whalley Employee, Melanie Starr, presented a check from Whalley employees for $1,525 to Ivy Ward, Red Cross Volunteer. Starr expects Whalley’s employee match contribution to arrive next week.
The American Red Cross is continuing the major effort we have underway to hand out relief supplies to help people in New Jersey and all five boroughs of New York, while also providing meals, shelter and comfort to people throughout the region.
“Superstorm Sandy has left devastation in its wake and we will be helping people for weeks to come,” said Dawn Leaks, Red Cross Regional Director of Communications.  “This will be very costly and the Red Cross needs help now. We ask everyone to support us as we help people recover from this massive storm.”
